Family & Children

Helping families celebrate & preserve life’s milestone moments, for generations, with personal artwork & wall décor for their home.

The Family Portrait

…one of the most important and personal pieces of home décor you can collect. Our family wall portraits can be custom designed to fit any home. There are many things to be considered when having a family portrait created, such as the size and shape, the look (casual or formal), what type of framing will best enhance the portrait and fit with your home or office décor, just to mention a few. You also want the portrait to reflect your family’s personality! So let us help you plan and create your piece of personal artwork that will be the centerpiece in your home that you and your family will be able to enjoy every day for years to come.

Our Approach

We love photographing families and we take a different approach than most to creating unique custom family portraits. We like to start with the end in mind and design your family wall portraits based on where they will ultimately reside in your home or office. After all, we’re creating a custom piece of artwork and the look and feel, colors and tones, framing, clothing choices, all need to work together to create a beautiful finished portrait that fits with the look and feel of your home or office. We typically start the process with a design consultation at your home so we can understand what you want and help you determine the best size and style of portraits for your home or office. Designing and planning for a custom family portrait can take a little time and effort, but can be fun and certainly well worth it in the end.

Our Clients

We’re not going to be the right fit for everyone and that’s ok. If you’re making your decision on who to work with based on price alone, we might not be the right fit for you. But if you’re looking for a truly unique portrait of your family that you will be able to enjoy for a lifetime, look no further! Our clients are coming to us to have something special and unique created just for them, and expect to pay a little more for that type of service and product. That also doesn’t mean our prices are outrageous or that we’re the most expensive either. We just don’t work on volume like most photographers when it comes to family portraits, but rather focus on high quality individualized portrait sessions that are well planned to create that perfect family portrait that you will be thrilled with!

Helpful Info & Tips for Your Family Portrait Session

Clothing

It is important to choose outfits that will make pleasing portraits, and be consistent with the style of portrait you are planning. Remember that busy patterns, stripes and bright colors are distractions from the focal point: the face, or faces in the portrait. Color coordination creates harmony. While all clothing does not have to match, the colors should be similar in tone, so that one person will not dominate the scene. The viewer’s eyes are drawn to where the most contrast in the image is, so eliminating contrasting colors & tones helps draw the viewer’s eyes to the subject(s) face(s). Dark clothing tends to minimize apparent body size, while light shades do the opposite. Clothing tones should also be similar to the tones in the setting where you will be photographed, again, in order to draw the viewers attention to the subjects face versus any contrasting elements in the image. Long sleeves are best for adults and older children. If you expect to display a full size wall portrait, we suggest letting us help you design all aspects of the portrait whether formal or casual, from the setting to the clothing and everything in between.

Hair Styling and Make-Up

We have found it best, especially in the case of children, not to schedule your session immediately following a haircut. A week later is usually best. Adults know when their hair looks good! Your portrait session is also NOT a good time to “try out” a new hair style. Women’s make-up should be appropriate for the clothing and portrait style desired. We encourage subtle make-up on most all girls, except for the younger girls. We will put the finishing touches on your portrait with professional retouching and enhancements to make you look your best.
