SESSION TIPS

We are committed to providing you the highest quality photography in the area. Our experience over the years has shown us what works for a session and what doesn't.

Clothing

It is important to choose outfits that will make pleasing portraits, and be consistent with the style of portrait you are planning. Remember that busy patterns, stripes and bright colors are distractions from the focal point: the face, or faces in the portrait.

Colors

Color coordination creates harmony. While all clothing does not have to match, the colors should be similar in tone, so that one person will not dominate the scene. Dark clothing tends to minimize apparent body size, while light shades do the opposite. Long sleeves are best for adults and older children.

For Wall Portraits

If you expect to display a full size wall portrait, we suggest letting us help you design all aspects of the portrait whether formal or casual, from the setting to the clothing and everything in between.

Seniors

Depending on your session selection, please bring addition outfits to insure that you have a good variety to choose from. More is better! Personal items and props--such as sports or musical instruments--are also encouraged. If you're not sure, just bring it; it doesn't mean we have to use it, but at least we'll have it if we need it.

Hair Styling

We have found it best, especially in the case of children, not to schedule your session immediately following a haircut. A week later is usually best. Adults know when their hair looks good! Your portrait session is also NOT a good time to "try out" a new hair style.

Make-Up

Women's make-up should be appropriate for the clothing and portrait style desired. We encourage subtle make-up on most all girls, except for the younger girls. We will put the finishing touches on your portrait with professional retouching and enhancements to make you look your best.

All of this information and more is discussed at the initial, no obligation, portrait design consult. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us.
